Directors/Committees/Members

Shirley Community Association (SCA) is a non-profit organization. The Association owns, operates, and maintains roughly 2 acres of land located between West Coast Road and Sheringham Point Road in the district of Shirley, B.C.. It finances its operations through membership fees, event functions, hall rentals, lease rent, and grants. Members of the board are elected every March at the annual general meeting. The Association holds six general meetings every year (January, March, May, July, September, November). It also organizes four main events annually --- Shirley Day Fair, Fall Fair, Neighborhood Christmas Event, and Spring Fair. These events are coordinated and executed by the committee members. Both Shirley residents and non-residents are welcome to join in as a member.

Duties of Directors

* the President ---  presides at all meetings of the society and of the directors; is the chief executive officer of the society and shall supervise the other officers in the execution of their duties; has signatory authority in financial matters of the society.

* the Vice-President --- carries out the duties of the President during his/her absence; has signatory authority in financial matters of the society.

* the Secretary --- conducts the correspondence of the society; issues notices of the meetings of the society and the directors; keeps minutes of all meetings of the society and directors; has custody of all records and documents of the society except those required to be kept by the Treasurer; has custody of the common seal of the society; and maintains the register of members.

* the Treasurer --- keeps the financial records, including books of account necessary to comply with the Society Act; renders financial statements to the directors, members and others when required; is the prime signatory authority in matters of finance along with the President or the Vice-President; keeps the funds of the society in a chartered bank or credit union to be drawn only by cheque; and invests all assets in the name of the Shirley Community Association.

 

Membership Fees

Shirley resident (voting member)              $10.00 per year

Non resident ( non-voting associate member)           $10.00 per year

 * membership fees are due on the 1st of March each year.
